What is Trauma?

Trauma therapy something that we can provide where appropriate.  The therapist will discuss this further in your appointment.  Trauma is something which can have an ongoing impact on a person’s lifeAs a human givens therapist I can use a simple, non invasive technique to help people process a trauma.  There are a couple of ways this can be done and this will be discussed with the therapist.  The aim is to neutralise the ongoing impact that trauma can leave.

A trauma is an event, series of events, or set of circumstances which is perceived by an individual as being harmful or life threatening.  While the experience is individual, the experience of trauma can cause lasting negative effects both to the person and their loved ones.  If experienced in childhood, the effects can last long into adulthood affecting health, education and overall achievement.  If the results are severe the person can go on to develop PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

How can it Affect me?

Historic trauma can affect a person’s life in a number of negative ways if not treated.  The sort of effects you might see are as follows:

  • the quality of sleep a person has will be poor with nightmares or general unrest during the night.  This will then increase anxiety.
  • A person may start to avoid things they would normally do or enjoy, and this avoidance can change their life significantly.
  • It can affect personal and professional relationships owing to the person becoming irritable, distant or cold,
  • They may experience flashbacks.

Processing the event or events can help to improve life dramatically and allow the person to feel some sense of calm again.
