So what sorts of things can therapy help me with?

There is a number of things that counselling can help with. Human Givens Therapy can assist with:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Phobia
  • Addictions
  • Behaviour Change,
  • Bereavement.

There can be incidents in life that cause us to develop unhelpful patterns of behaviour. These may be something we are aware of but unable to control. Or we may have noticed a pattern of behaviour which is bothering us in certain situations. Counselling might help us to change unhelpful patterns of behaviour permanently.

Phobias can lead us to changing the way we behave, making us avoid certain situations altogether. I worked with a lady who was avoiding her home because of a phobia of mice. Emetophobia or a fear of vomiting is quite a common phobia. This can be really difficult when managing illness in the home. Needle phobia can cause ongoing issues when accessing health care. Using evidence based techniques we can help resolve issues around phobias.

We all have resources we use to help us meet our emotional needs, things like our imagination, emotions, observing self and so on. These can used and misused , and at times when we are suffering from a lot of anxiety, we may well be misusing our imagination. In counselling we might look at where the anxiety is coming from, and once we have established this we might look at breathing techniques and other tools you could refer to which will help stop you from misusing your imagination.

Low mood or depression can make people feel like they have fallen into a black hole. We can have a close look at what is happening in someone’s life, what is out of balance and what changes we can make to improve things one step at a time.

Overall any therapy we do will be focused on trying to help you live the life you want to live again and to bring hope for the future back into your life. To book an appointment today why not get in touch.
